Niall Kelly, Vice President of Development, EAME, Starwood Hotels & Resorts, IMHI 1996

Niall was born in Dublin and completed a B.Sc. (Management) from Trinity College, Dublin and a Higher Diploma in Hotel and Catering Management from Dublin Institute of Technology. He worked for a small hotel/resort development firm in Ireland prior to entering IMHI.

After finishing IMHI in 1996, he spent just under three years working for Arthur Andersen in New York in the hospitality consulting practice. He joined the Starwood Hotels & Resorts development team at the end of 1998 in London. He spent three years in London before moving to Brussels. He is currently Vice President of Development for EAME.

Here is a personal testimony from Niall:
"I learnt many things at IMHI, some of them business related, others personal. Through IMHI I had the opportunity to learn amongst other things, the fundamentals in real estate finance that play a large part in my day to day job. IMHI subsequently provided me with the contacts to exploit such knowledge and information. IMHI also prepared me, for better or worse, for many long hard nights of work. On a personal front, coming from Ireland twelve years ago, IMHI was a microcosm of many languages and cultures to which I had not been exposed. I made some of the best friends I will ever have.

In terms of good memories, again the friendships, playing rugby for ESSEC and that wine trip to Burgundy in the second year. I did think I was just going to IMHI and France for two years and that I would then return home. Twelve years later I am still on walkabout.

My advice to students, work hard, be honest, think on your feet and have some fun."
